Prevention and treatment
Every mouth gets tartar, plaque and/or calculus build-up, for some it will build much faster than others. This build-up is the cause of bleeding gums and gum disease and removing it is crucial in the treatment and prevention of gum disease.
A total scale and polish or teeth cleaning treatment with us will take anywhere between 30 minutes to 1 hour. (The duration depends on the overall health of your mouth.) Your first appointment will usually take 30 minutes, and if further treatment is needed we can discuss further treatment plans.
Examination
On your appointment we start with a complete examination of your gums and screen for oral cancer. Next, we scale and clean away the plaque, tartar/calculus, debridement of bacteria and stains in your mouth. This will clean your mouth and treat any occurring gum disease. To restore the natural shine of your teeth, we finish off with a polish.
All build-up and stains are removed with our brand new, state of the art prophylaxis and scaling equipment and instruments. We also review and customise home care plans and set you up with the best routine and techniques to suit you.
How frequent?
Every person is different and your recall period will depend on many things such as; amount of build-up occurring, how adequate your home care is, and your systemic health. In general it is recommended to visit a dental hygienist anywhere between every 3 months to once a year.
